3 Simple Ways to Reduce First-Trimester Nausea

First trimesters with both my pregnancies hit me hard. We’re talking nausea all day, every day. If I wasn’t queasy, I was starving, and the moment I let myself get too hungry the nausea would spike. I quickly learned to keep snacks everywhere: by my bed, in my bag, in the car. Some mornings it was dry cereal before my feet even hit the floor. Other times it was whatever protein I could manage to get down just to function.

If you’re in it right now, these three simple things actually helped me feel better without adding stress to an already overwhelming season.

1. Skip the prenatal pills, use Perelel’s 1st Trimester Prenatal Powder instead

If the idea of swallowing a giant prenatal pill makes your stomach turn, you're not alone. But we all know how important those nutrients are, even when your appetite is off and your stomach feels unsettled. That’s where 1st Trimester Prenatal Powder from Perelel comes in.

This is what I reached for when I just couldn’t do the pills. It’s a light, vanilla-flavored powder that mixes easily into milk of your choice, yogurt or a smoothie. No strong vitamin aftertaste. No added sugar. And no stress if you sip it slowly throughout the morning. It’s also a Clean Label Project Purity Award winner, so you know it’s been rigorously tested for quality and safety.

Each scoop gives you:

  • Nutrients to support baby’s early development
  • Ginger and vitamin B6 to help ease queasiness
  • Choline for brain health
  • Clean, easy-to-absorb vitamins
  • Safe for both pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • A mild vanilla taste that actually goes down well

2. Stick to nausea-friendly foods

I didn’t have cravings so much as a short list of foods I could tolerate. I kept those foods on hand at all times so I never got too hungry, which almost always made my nausea worse.

What helped:

  • Toast, dry plain cereal, or pretzels
  • Almond butter on crackers
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Berries or chilled melon
  • Greek yogurt (my yes during baby number two, no way during baby number one)
  • Ginger chews or ginger tea

Smaller meals, more often, made a big difference. And here’s a tip: pay attention to temperature. Cold foods sometimes went down easier than warm ones.

3. Hydrate with electrolytes (not just water)

Staying hydrated is key, but water alone was tough for me during the first trimester. I needed something gentle and more appealing. An electrolyte powder became my go-to.

I loved Perlel’s Cellular Hydration Powder. It had a light mango lemonade flavor, nothing too sweet or overwhelming. I’d mix a scoop into my water and sip it slowly, especially over ice.

Why it helped:

  • Six essential electrolytes to keep your body balanced
  • 4 grams of collagen protein per serving
  • Collagen and hyaluronic acid for skin hydration
  • Clean, pregnancy-safe ingredients
  • No added sugar, gluten, dairy, or soy
  • Third-party tested for safety

Try alternating it with herbal tea, coconut water, or just plain water to stay consistently hydrated throughout the day.
