When my baby came down with his first virus, his congested little nose, cough and discomfort broke my heart. I immediately turned to the internet, and learned cold and flu medications aren’t approved for babies and toddlers. So my search quickly turned into looking for natural remedies. Steam with essential oils like eucalyptus, and humidifiers in the nursery were top recommendations. I impulsively purchased the first humidifier I could find at the store, but was soon after 1) disappointed that it couldn’t be used with essential oils to help my baby’s breathing and 2) disgusted with how quickly mold developed.

Instagram ads of course knew I was in the market for a humidifier, and I ended up getting targeted with an ad for an easy-to-clean, essential oil compatible, humidifier called Canopy. I was intrigued by the sleek aesthetic, clever marketing, and dishwasher-friendly (a total game changer) design so I purchased one, and now I want one in every bedroom of my house! Here’s my Canopy Humidifier review.

Benefits of a Humidifier in Your Nursery

Remember those cold winter nights when you’d peek into the nursery and see your baby coughing, sniffling, and battling a runny nose? Having a humidifier in your nursery can bring several benefits to alleviate these symptoms.

  1. Easier breathing: Adding a bit of moisture to the air helps those tiny congested noses clear up faster.
  2. Skin benefits: Have you ever noticed your baby's skin getting drier and itchier during the winter months? This humidifier helps fight dry skin, which, let me tell you, means a happier baby and a happier mama.
  3. Improved air quality: The added moisture can alleviate dryness in the air particularly during colder months or in drier climates. This can make the air more comfortable for your baby to breathe and reduce the risk of respiratory irritation.
  4. Restful sleep: Comfortable humidity levels in the nursery can contribute to better sleep quality for your baby.

Overview of the Canopy Humidifier

The Canopy Humidifier stands out from other humidifiers on the market for several reasons. First, its aesthetically-pleasing, sleek design sets it apart from other bulky humidifiers available on the market. It also has a unique no-mist technology, which keeps bacteria and particles at bay, ensuring a healthier environment without mold growth. Some other key features include:

  1. Hydrates spaces up to 500 square feet
  2. 2.5 liter tank capacity
  3. All parts are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning (this is a huge one for me!)
  4. 36 hours of running time
  5. Internal sensors assist in regulating moisture levels based on the time of day (auto mode)
  6. USB-C power cord included in purchase
  7. Purchases are protected by their risk-free 60-Day Happiness Guarantee, so if you're not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it with a money-back guarantee
  8. Uses water evaporation technology with paper filters instead of mist or steam
  9. You can enhance your experience by incorporating essential oils for aromatherapy
  10. Provides the ideal level of relative humidity for a given environment
  11. Offers a subscription model for convenience
Overview of the Canopy Humidifier

A Mom's Perspective on the Canopy Humidifier

Aside from using this humidifier when my baby and toddler are sick, it’s a great choice for any pregnant mama who is feeling under the weather who prefers to avoid medications, and instead opt for natural remedies. Also, this humidifier is raved about by women pregnant, and not, about its hydration leading to glowing, moisturized skin.

What I love about the Canopy humidifier:

  1. I appreciate that you can use tap water with the Canopy humidifier, and don't have to worry about damaging the machine with alternative water. This sets it apart from many other brands that typically require distilled water. Plus, the built-in UV light effectively eliminates 99.9% of bacteria, mold, and viruses from tap water.
  2. I love that it has a built-in essential oil diffuser for aromatherapy. It helps my sick kiddos breathe easier. Plus when I turn ‘On’ our humidifier, it signals that it's time to wind down and get ready for bed.
  3. Babies and young toddlers can't take cold medicine because they are too young, so this humidifier is a helpful alternative to mitigate cold symptoms.
  4. I appreciate the Canopy humidifier's sleek and modern aesthetic. I'm all about clean lines and simple colors, and this one nails it. It's definitely not as clunky-looking as some of the others out there. It fits right in with the aesthetic we're going for in our nursery.
  5. Humidifiers are exceptionally annoying to clean. You've got to stay on top of it because mold can quickly become an issue, especially in those hard-to-reach spots. But with the Canopy humidifier, cleaning is EASY. Not only is it dishwasher-safe, but it also fights mold growth because it doesn't produce any mist or steam, which is where mold thrives!
  6. It creates a gentle white noise, which adds soothing and calming vibes during bedtime routine.
  7. The Canopy humidifier has a ‘night mode' setting, which automatically shuts off when lights are off/in the dark.

What I don't love about the Canopy humidifier:

  1. One of the benefits of the Canopy humidifier is also one of its downfalls. The auto mode, meaning the internal sensors that assist in regulating moisture levels, prevents you from turning off the humidifier when not in use. While I understand it's to prevent mold growth, I'd rather have the option to turn it on or off.
  2. Less extensive features (no app, or digital humidity reader)
  3. While the subscription model is convenient, repurchasing filters can get pricey.

How to Use Canopy's Aroma Pucks for Aromatherapy

Canopy’s aroma pucks are made from ceramic and it’s easy to switch between scents.

  1. Place an aroma puck on your humidifier's top grate.
  2. Drop 2-5 drops of your chosen essential oil onto the puck.
  3. Turn on your humidifier and let it do its thing!

Don't forget to leave the plastic film attached to the bottom of your puck, which is a protective layer to prevent leakage.

How to Clean the Canopy Humidifier

The humidifier's tank, cap, and tray can all be put in the dishwasher, making cleaning easy and effortless. The body of the humidifier should not be cleaned in the dishwasher because this is the part which stores the electrical parts. Feel free to wipe the body clean with a damp dishtowel. To remove dust or debris from hard-to-reach areas inside the fan, use canned air (a canister of compressed gas) to dislodge any accumulations inside.

How Canopy’s Filter Subscription Works

For the best performance, you should swap out your filter every 6 weeks. While you can purchase individual filters, opting into the subscription plan allows you to take advantage of exclusive discounts.

These are the different filter subscription plans:

  1. Standard filter subscription: Receive a new filter every 45 days for $10
  2. 2-pack filter subscription: Receive 2 new filters every 90 days for $20
  3. 3-pack filter subscription: Receive 3 new filters every 135 days for $30 (and free shipping!)
  4. One year supply: Receive 8 new filters which lasts an entire year.
  5. Bedside Humidifier Filter + Aroma Subscription: Receive a new filter and aroma kit every 45 days for $25

So is the Canopy Humidifier Worth It?

Since the Canopy Humidifier uses evaporative technology leveraging filters, it doesn't require distilled water and can be filled straight from the tap. I love the convenience of this. And yes, that means you need to have filters on hand, but storing several filters takes up a fraction of the space required to store mass amounts of distilled water, not to mention Canopy offers a no-fuss filter subscription so they arrive without needing to even think about it.

If you value aesthetics, dishwasher-safe cleaning, and convenience, and are looking for a humidifier that delivers clean air, then the answer to “Is the Canopy Humidifier Worth It?” is definitely yes!
