Traveling with a baby can feel like you’re packing up your entire house. Between an endless supply of clothes, a fully-stocked diaper bag, stroller, and car seat, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the stuff. After countless trips (and a fair share of mishaps) with our kids, I’ve learned a thing or two about making family travel more manageable. Here are my top four tips for stress-free travel with a baby this holiday season (or anytime you’re on the go!).

Hack #1: Upgrade your diaper game

Traveling with a baby is hectic enough without the added drama of a mid-flight blowout or a leaky diaper during a long car ride. That’s why I’m a big fan of Coterie diapers. I’ve literally tried all the clean diaper brands—Dyper, Mille Moon, Pampers Pure, Freestyle, etc— and Coterie diapers have been the most absorbent in my experience. These diapers don’t just soak up liquid, they also stay dry to the touch, inside and out. The snug and comfortable fit also helps prevent leaking or blowouts when traveling. This means fewer diaper disasters (and longer stretches of sleep) during overnight trips, long travel days, or hotel stays.

Coterie diapers are made with luxuriously soft materials and are hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, TCF, free from lotions, parabens, and are independent lab tested. Even with my kids’ sensitive skin, I never worry about rashes or discomfort, whether we’re dealing with new weather or exploring unfamiliar environments.

With Coterie’s add-on feature, you can easily store a few extra packs of diapers in your checked car seat bag or ship some directly to your destination. And while you’re at it, add a few packs of travel wipes to your order!

Hack #2: Pre-fill bottles or pack pre-measured formula

Traveling with a baby requires planning, especially when it comes to feeding. Thankfully, TSA allows breastmilk, formula, and other liquids (like puree pouches) through security. To simplify feeding on flights, pack pre-measured formula in your carry-on luggage. You can use travel formula dispensers and an insulated water bottle  with  warm water to mix bottles mid-flight. If you’re traveling with pumped breast milk, make sure to pack an insulated cooler bag with ice packs for storing breast milk.

It may seem like a small step, but planning ahead can lighten your mental load when your baby is hungry and you’re wedged into tight airplane seats. And don’t forget to pack an extra bottle or two, in case of spills, unexpected messes, or if your baby suddenly has a bigger appetite.

Hack #3: Wear your baby through airport security

Once you’ve checked in, wearing your baby through airport security is the easiest option. Babywearing frees up your hands so you can manage all the stuff, plus your stroller will need to be manually scanned, and your car seat has to go through the x-ray machine, so they’re not really practical options to set your baby down during this part of the process.

Hack #4: Same song, new scenery

One of the best ways to make traveling with a baby easier is to stick to the usual schedule as much as possible (no need to stress if it’s not perfect!). Babies thrive on routine, so maintaining familiar feeding, nap, and bedtime patterns can help them feel more secure—whether you’re on a road trip or flying across the country.

You don’t have to be super rigid, but try to keep key elements of their routine intact. If your child normally naps at a certain time, find a way to make it happen, even if it’s in the car, on the plane, or on your shoulder! Bring along familiar items, like their favorite blanket, sound machine, or a bedtime book, to make their new sleeping environment feel a little more like home.

Traveling with kids is challenging, so I’m always looking for ways to make it easier for the whole family. For our holiday vacation, and every trip moving forward, I’ll definitely be packing my Coterie diapers for a stress-free, hassle-free experience.
