If you've been researching non-toxic diapers, you already know there are tons of options. But do they all really not contain chemicals, fragrances, and other irritants? Or are they just full of marketing jargon and buzzwords?

I decided to put the top brands to the test. Here's my breakdown of Coterie, HealthyBaby, Freestyle, Kudos, Millie Moon, and Pampers Amore.

Criteria #1: Ingredient safety

Diapers are bleached during manufacturing to sanitize the materials and get that bright white look. Total Chlorine Free (TCF) means no chlorine was used at all. Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) means reduced chlorine, but not zero. I prefer TCF for peace of mind.

🥈 HealthyBaby: TCF, hypoallergenic, and EWG Verified. Free of fragrance, lotion, latex, parabens, phthalates, and optical brighteners. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and meets EU-level safety standards. HRIPT tested by board-certified dermatologists for sensitive skin.

🥈Freestyle: TCF, hypoallergenic, and EWG Verified. Free of fragrance, lotion, latex, parabens, phthalates, and alcohol. 

Kudos: TCF and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Free of lotions, fragrances, latex, parabens, phthalates, and chlorine. Features a 100% cotton liner.

Millie Moon: Dermatologist tested and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF). Free of lotions, latex, and fragrance. 

Pampers Amore: Hypoallergenic. Free of fragrance and parabens. Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF), and latex. Third-party lab tested for 1,000+ chemicals and dermatologically accredited by the Skin Health Alliance.

Criteria #2: Absorbency

To test this, I poured 1 cup of  warm water on each diaper, feeling for speed of absorption and wetness immediately, then again after several minutes.

🥇Coterie: This diaper absorbed liquid instantly and felt incredibly dry within seconds. It was almost as if no water was poured at all.

HealthyBaby: This diaper absorbed quickly, but slightly slower than Coterie, and felt damp after several minutes.

Freestyle: This diaper absorbed, but definitely felt wet to the touch.

❌Kudos: This diaper absorbed decently quickly, but felt the wettest of all the options.

Millie Moon: This performed the same as I’d consider your average diaper – absorbed the liquid, but felt damp to the touch.

Pampers Amore: This diaper absorbed similarly to HealthyBaby, but was noticeably damper after a few minutes. 

Criteria #3: Softness

🥇Coterie: OMG these are so soft inside and out! It hardly feels like a diaper, more like a high-end fabric. They are plush and feel like cashmere.

HealthyBaby: These are very thin, but do have a touch of softness.

🥈Freestyle: Soft on the outside, though the inner topsheet has a slightly rougher feel.

❌Kudos: These feel rough and like plastic.

Millie Moon: These have a slight plasticy feel to them, like layers of tissue paper crinkling between your fingers.

Pampers Amore: Soft and almost fluffy-like, but a bit bulky overall.

Criteria #4: Availability & Convenience
