This post is in partnership with Coterie. I only endorse products I believe in.
Coterie has been my go-to diaper for a while. It checks all the boxes: soft, reliable, and they're also so thoughtfully made. But on a recent Whole Foods run (you know the kind where you go in for oat milk and berries and leave with a full cart), I noticed how dramatically cheaper the other two brands in stock were: Honest and Whole Foods 365… which got me wondering, is Coterie really worth the extra cost?
So I grabbed a pack of each to put them to figure out which diapers on the shelves at Whole Foods is best, and here’s what I found.

Criteria #1: Absorbency
Any diaper worth your purchase obviously has to be absorbent. To test this with the diapers available at my Whole Foods, I poured warm water on each diaper to see how quickly it soaked in and also how dry it stayed after a few minutes.
Coterie
Absorbed liquid instantly and felt dry to the touch within seconds. It has a cushy feel without being bulky, and the surface stayed incredibly dry throughout the test. 5/5
Honest
I was impressed that this particular diaper absorbed quickly, but that’s about it. It stayed wet to the touch and also got pretty bulky once it soaked up the liquid. 3/5
Whole Foods 365
Absorption speed was similar to the Honest diaper, but it felt the wettest to the touch of all options, meaning leaks and diaper rash are way more likely. 2/5
Absorbency Winner: Coterie
Criteria #2: Safety and Comfort
Coterie
These are the softest diapers I’ve ever touched. Think cashmere for diapers. Beyond comfort, Coterie is incredibly transparent about what goes into their product. They conduct third-party testing in addition to clearly listing ingredients. Their diapers are also free from chlorine, parabens, latex, fragrances, lotions, alcohol, and phthalates. 5/5
Honest
These feel a little crinkly, almost like paper. They’re super stretchy, which is great for active babies, but that same stretch makes it harder to lay flat during diaper changes. Honest is transparent about their ingredients and they also run safety testing across their products. They’re free from chlorine, parabens, latex, and fragrance, though they do include lotion, which might be a no for some families. 3/5
Whole Foods 365
These feel a bit rough and they really don’t have much stretch. They skip chlorine, fragrance, as well as lotions, but safety and ingredient info beyond that is hard to find. 3/5
Comfort Winner: Coterie
Criteria #3: Eco-friendliness
Coterie
Coterie uses wood pulp from FSC-certified forests and makes their diapers in a facility that also runs on 100% renewable energy. They’re also investing in research to make diapering more sustainable for everyone, not just their own brand. 4/5
Honest
Honest uses wood pulp from sustainably managed forests and says their updated diaper design helps reduce waste and also save thousands of trees a year. They’ve also made changes to lower their carbon footprint by sourcing more materials closer to home. 3/5
Whole Foods 365
Unfortunately, there is currently no information available on either environmental impact or sustainability efforts for Whole Foods 365 diapers. 0/5
Eco-friendliness Winner: Coterie
Criteria #4: Cost
