Beekeeper’s Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops vs Lolleez Lollipops

This post is in partnership with Beekeeper's Naturals. I only endorse products I personally use with my family.

When both my kids came down with colds and sore throats, I went into full-on mom mode to find anything that could help them feel better and ease their discomfort. Since they're young, I was determined to find something safe and gentle, so I dashed to Target and found two different sore throat lollipops to try with my kids: Beekeeper’s Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops and Lolleez Lollipops. During this recent bout of sickness, we decided to put both products to the test to see which one worked best and which my kids preferred. Here's my honest review.

The best formula: Beekeeper’s Naturals

Beekeeper's Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops

What I love about Beekeeper’s Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops is their thoughtful blend of ingredients. Each lollipop is formulated with propolis extract, vitamin D, zinc and wildflower honey. These elements work together to ease scratchy throats and give a boost to the immune system. Ever since me and my kids started using their throat spray, I've learned just how beneficial propolis can be.

Propolis is a substance bees create from plant and tree sap to fortify their hives, keeping them safe and healthy. But beyond hive maintenance, propolis offers incredible health benefits. Propolis has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and is packed with bioactive compounds, antioxidants, B vitamins, vitamin C and D, and zinc, all which have immune-supporting properties. TL;DR: each lollipop is packed with clean, effective ingredients to soothe dry and scratchy throats.

One of the things I really love about this lollipop is that it only contains 2g of sugar, which is 50% less sugar than many other lollipop and lozenge brands. Instead of packing it with sugar, Beekeeper’s Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops contain monk fruit to provide additional sweetness, so each lollipop only has 2 grams of sugar! So when I give these lollipops to my kids, I don't have to stress about them getting a sugar rush and ending up cranky and tired later on.

Lolleez Lollipops

When I tried Lolleez Lollipops, I didn't realize they were formulated quite differently. Lolleez uses pectin, a fruit-derived ingredient, to ease sore throats and reduce swelling and irritation. However, I was a bit disappointed when I couldn't find clear information about the sugar content on the packaging. Even after checking their website, I still couldn't find any details. I reached out to Lolleez customer service and they said “Lolleez contains about 5g of organic sugars for each delicious pop, depending on the flavor you choose.” I honestly was shocked by the lack of transparency here.

Another noticeable difference is that Lolleez Lollipops does not include functional ingredients beyond pectin. While Beekeeper’s Naturals boast a range of beneficial components like propolis extract, vitamin D, zinc, wildflower honey, and antioxidants, Lolleez Lollipops only feature pectin and sugar.

The safest ingredients: Beekeeper’s Naturals

Choosing products with the safest ingredients is so important, especially when it comes to our kids. What sets Beekeeper’s Naturals apart is their commitment to using natural and clean ingredients that not only soothe sore throats but also provide additional health benefits.

Each Beekeeper’s Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipop has:

  • Propolis extract: 2.5 mg
  • Zinc: 1.5 mg
  • Vitamin D3: 500 IU
  • Added sugar: 2 g
  • Other ingredients: chicory root fiber (a prebiotic fiber), organic brown rice syrup, wildflower honey, fruit purees, citric acid, natural flavors, fruit and vegetable juices (for color), elderberry extract, monk fruit
  • Dietary considerations: gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, dye-free, free of artificial flavors
  • Testing: Beekeeper’s Naturals undergoes third-party testing on all formulas for pesticides and heavy metals to ensure quality and purity.

Each Lolleez Lollipop has:

  • Pectin: 11.5 mg
  • Added sugar: 5 grams
  • Other ingredients: citric acid, organic cane sugar, fruit juice concentrates, organic honey, organic flavors, brown rice syrup
  • Dietary considerations: Organic, non-GMO, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free
  • Testing: No

While Lolleez uses one less added sugar ingredient, it's important to understand the difference between fruit purees and fruit juice concentrates. Beekeeper's Naturals uses fruit purees, essentially whole fruit that's been blended, while Lolleez Lollipops uses fruit juice concentrate, which is a highly condensed form of fruit juice where much of the water content has been removed, leaving behind concentrated natural sugars. In simpler terms, fruit juice concentrate packs a ton of fruit sugar in a smaller volume.

The tastiest: tied

Beekeeper's Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops feature a blend of honey, fruit purees, organic rice syrup, natural fruit flavors, and monk fruit for sweetness and flavor. They come in strawberry, green apple and mixed berry flavors. On the other hand, Lolleez Lollipop uses organic cane sugar, fruit juice concentrates, organic honey, organic flavors, and brown rice syrup. They come in watermelon, strawberry and orange mango flabors.

Honestly, they both taste like a sweet lollipop, and my kids had zero preference of one over the other.

Sore Throat Lollipops: Which is the best?

The most budget-friendly: Lolleez

Lolleez Lollipops is the more budget-friendly option between the two. Here's the breakdown:

  1. Beekeeper's Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops: $9.99 for 15 lollipops, or $0.66 per lollipop.
  2. Lolleez Lollypops: $9.99 for 21 lollipops, or $0.48 per lollipop.

Personally, I don't mind paying a little extra for Beekeeper's Naturals Throat Soothing Lollipops because of their premium ingredients and added functional benefits.

My pick for the best sore throat lollipops is Beekeeper’s Naturals.

Its really not hard for me to say which brand of sore throat lollipops I’ll be buying more of for my kids. Beekeeper’s Naturals ingredients span more benefits and the sugar content really can’t be beat. I highly recommend stocking up on a pack of these lollipops now for you to have in your back pocket next time your little one gets cranky with a sore throat.
