Six years ago, I was ordering European formula off specialty websites (that felt like black-market importing) and refreshing tracking pages, hoping it would show up before I ran out. That isn't necessary anymore.

I look for a 60:40 whey-to-casein ratio, which mirrors mature breast milk and digests more easily, and MFGM (milk fat globule membrane), which supports brain and immune development.1 MFGM occurs naturally in whole milk fat, so formulas built on nonfat milk and vegetable oils typically don't have it.

A deeper analysis: The gap between Happy Baby, Bobbie and Hipp is 17 cents a bottle, roughly $30 a month for a fully formula-fed baby. Bobbie's included lactation session and partner discounts cover that if you use them, and the price lock (available through Bobbie's subscription) is worth something specific in a category where I've watched prices move and shelves empty.
*In August 2025 the US ended the exemption letting packages under $800 enter duty-free.8 Some importers absorb the cost, others pass through about 15%
The formula I recommend is…
Bobbie, and not because it wins every line. HiPP and Happy Baby have prebiotics, it doesn't. Happy Baby is cheaper.
It's the only one where I'd know what's in the batch, who made it, and what it'll cost in six months.
