For many, being a mom can feel especially meaningful around Mother’s Day. I know I’m very lucky to be a mama to two amazing little ones and to have a partner who supports me in so many ways. I’m also surrounded by incredible moms—family, friends, neighbors, co-workers—who deserve to feel seen and celebrated, even with the smallest gesture. That’s why I created these free Mother’s Day cards for kids that you just have to download and print—something simple, sweet, and actually doable.

I'm right there with so many of you now that my kids are in that sweet (and sour) toddler stage, where they’re starting to understand these special days—and they want in. And I love that. Handmade gifts really do fill my cup, but I also know how much work it can be to actually make those moments happen (cue glitter, ribbon, and at least one meltdown). That’s why I like to keep it easy. We’ve always got crayons and markers around, so I know this is something other families can pull off, too—without the stress.

These free printable Mother’s Day cards have quickly become my go-to. They’re easy to set up, kid-led, and feel personal without the pressure of a full blown craft. We’ve used versions for other holidays too—and they always feel like the perfect mix of thoughtful and doable.

Why they work so well:

  • They’re quick to print and easy to prep—just grab crayons or markers
  • Toddlers can color or doodle, older kids can add their own sweet notes
  • It’s creative, personal, and lets kids take the lead

Whether you’re subtly sending this to your partner as a hint (highly recommend) or sharing it with other dads so the moms in your circle feel the love, these printables give kids a creative way to celebrate their mom.

5 printable + free Mother's day cards

I’m including five sweet, kid-friendly designs to choose from—print one or all of them depending on your kiddo’s mood and age!

1. All about my mom

A fill-in-the-blank style card where your child can answer prompts like “My mom’s favorite food is ___” and “My mom makes me feel loved when ___.” Great for kids who are starting to write—or toddlers who can answer out loud while you write for them. Always good for a laugh (and a few heart-melty moments).

2. Mom coloring page

This one includes coloring bold text and sweet images. Simple and fun for any age, especially younger toddlers who love to color big shapes.

3. Me & mom drawing page

An open frame with space for your child to draw themselves with mom—stick figures welcome. Ideal for preschoolers or kids who love art time and want to personalize it their own way.

4. #1 Mom award ribbon

Shaped like a prize ribbon, this coloring page lets kids color in the award and fill in who it’s going to. Easy and engaging for toddlers and up—perfect for handing off proudly.

5. I love you mom mountain & rainbow page

A classic coloring page with pretty florals, a big rainbow, and bold “I love you, Mom”. Great for all ages and makes for a cheerful, feel-good card. (Honestly, I’d love to sit with some sharpened colored pencils and a glass of wine and do this one myself.)

Materials needed:

  • Download and print all 5 templates—or just your favorite. (White cardstock works best!)
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • Optional: stickers, stamps, or washi tape for a little something extra

Pro tip: Consider printing a few extra copies just in case your child wants to make more than one or they have a redo moment.

Steps to create the card:

  1. Print the template(s).
  2. Have your child color, draw, or answer the prompts—kid spelling welcome, or you can write in their words if they’re not there yet.
  3. Deliver as is or pair with a small gift.

Helping your little one (without taking over)

Younger kids might need a little help with the words, so here’s a few tips for supporting them without taking the fun out of it:

  • Read any prompts aloud and let them answer in their own words
  • Write down their responses exactly how they say them (the funnier the better!)
  • Let them draw instead of write if they’re more into pictures
  • Encourage their creativity (even if the sky is orange and hearts have legs)
  • Add the date on the back for a sweet little time capsule moment

And when it comes to decorating any of the free Mother's day cards? Let them take the lead. Scribbles, sticker overload, off-center hearts—yes, it’s all part of the charm. (And trust me, whoever receives the card will love looking back on it.)

Easy ways to make the moment even sweeter

  • Attach the card to mom’s favorite coffee order
  • Pair it with a farmer’s market or store-bought bouquet
  • Add a homemade “coupon” for a snuggle, reading a book together, or lunch date
  • Drop it into a gift bag with a treat (think a bar of dark chocolate, a face mask, or book)
  • Need more ideas? Don’t worry, I’ve got a whole guide for that: Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2025

However you’re celebrating Mother’s Day this year, remember—it doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful. One of these free Mother's day cards, a kind word, a quiet moment together—those small things matter. Just a little effort, made with love, is more than enough.
