Coterie Diapers Review: Obsessed!

NEW MODERN MOM

An honest review of Coterie, the upgraded disposable diaper worth the splurge + 20% off your purchase

Update since originally writing this post: I’m now a mom of 2, with 2 littles in Coterie diapers and can confirm I am STILL obsessed!

Coterie Diapers are one of my top must-purchase items for your baby, hands-down.  The quality of these diapers just can’t be beat.  After researching reviews of what the best disposable diapers brand on the market was, there were some obvious big diaper players: Honest Co, Pampers & Huggies, along with some “next-gen” disposable diaper options like Bambo, Parasol, Hello Bello, Dyper and Coterie.

Here are some criteria I considered: What are the softest diapers? What are the cheapest diapers? What are the most absorbent diapers? What diapers are the safest and have the least amount of chemicals? What are the best diapers for sensitive skin?  Cloth diapers vs. disposable diapers? What disposable diapers are compostable?

Did you know that no diaper is fully compostable, 100% biodegradable or truly eco friendly? I learned this from a 1:1 interview with the Coterie team. Synthetic materials are required for a diaper to function properly. There are diaper services in certain cities like Earth Baby or TinyTots that collect used Bambo, Nest or Dyper diapers and then composts the parts that are biodegradable, but this process releases significant amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Because of this discovery, I chose a few diaper options at different price points to test on our baby.  I figured it would be a good experiment to justify if the high-price tag of Coterie was actually worth it.  We tested Huggies Little Snugglers, Pampers Pure, Honest Co and Coterie.

Without question Coterie Diapers outshined all the others.  And while they do come at a steeper price, we think it’s worth the splurge.  Why?

Review: Why Coterie are the best disposable diapers

Super Soft & Cozy

OMG these are so soft! They feel like actual cloth, not crunchy disposable diaper materials. These certainly take care of keeping your baby’s sensitive skin all nice and cozy.  I’m sure you’ve picked out several higher price-point, organic cotton and bamboo outfits for your baby, think of this diaper material as that same high-end quality as the onesies you’ve obsessed over.  This is the #1 reason we’ve stuck with the brand – seriously you just need to feel them for yourself.

Convenient Wetness Indicator

Nice convenience, quick check to see how wet the diaper is and if he really needs to be changed.  I was shocked this isn’t on Honest Co. diapers!

Simple design

Some people love the cute little designs on diapers, my personal preference is the classic simple white diaper look.

Top Notch Absorbency

Coterie says its diapers wick moisture away from baby’s skin in less than 16 seconds versus the industry average of 30 seconds.  Whether this is true or not, who knows, but what I do now is my baby has only had a diaper rash a couple of times (this diaper rash cream is great to have on hand) and I’d equate that to him staying nice and dry under that diaper of his.  Also, we’ve been fortunate to not have frequent blowouts.  Yes, we’ve still had some in these diapers, but no consistent incidents.

Safe Ingredients

On the sensitive skin theme, I wanted to avoid all harsh dyes and chemicals.  Coterie’s website includes this list of safety measures:

  • 0% Chlorine bleaching
  • Fragrance free
  • Lotion free
  • Latex free
  • Rubber free
  • Dye free
  • Alcohol free
  • Free of heavy metal
  • Clinically proven hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Free of harsh chemicals
  • No VOCs
  • No optical brighteners
  • No animal testing

Not compostable, but sustainably-minded

Eco-friendly diapers are definitely a top search right now among moms I know.  Unfortunately there is no such thing as a 100% biodegradable diaper.  There is a lot of greenwashing in the industry today and it’s hard to know what’s true. I appreciate that Coterie is extremely transparent about its processes and materials. So while not an actual compostable diaper, Coterie is thinking about the environment and planning for a more sustainable diaper future.

Try them for yourself

Where to purchase Coterie? Coterie diapers are only available direct-to-consumer, so you can purchase them on their website.  They deliver very fast – usually within 4 days.  And if you sign up for auto-renew, you remove the guesswork and guarantee to always have a stock of diapers ready to go.  Trust me, you’ll be a repeat customer.

NEW NEW! I’m so excited Coterie has officially launched a combo traditional diaper / pull-up called ‘The Pant.‘ Now my toddler who moves around A LOT has a very comfortable fit with this new flexible diaper that can be put standing up, or laying down!

Side note: I found myself in a bind without my Coterie diapers, and needed to purchase some at the store. I gave Huggies a try again for a few days… and my baby got one of the worst diaper rashes he’s had EVER!

  1. Andrea says:

Tried Coterie for our newborn after reading your review and many others who raved about them, seems there is mostly positive reviews online. Ordered the size NB/01, only was able to try the NB size at this point and while they are indeed soft and absorb well, we experienced some issues right away.

Fit wasn’t the best vs. Huggies Little Snugglers that the Hospital was using. Also the velcro tabs did not work too well, several diapers came undone and/or slipped off under the one-piece. I have found this to be an issue with most if not all in the pack, the tabs do not hold too well. Huggies have very strong velcro tabs and fit our NB very well. Another thing I noticed, Coterie does not have a back pocket for anti-blowout protection.

For the premium, I have yet to see a reason to reorder more Coterie diapers and maybe the benefit of these is more apparent at later stages vs NB? The biggest gripe is the velcro and fit.

    • Barbara Mighdoll says:

Hi Andrea! Thanks for the feedback. My baby was actually too big for NB diapers when he was born so he went straight into Size 1. It sounds like your little one may be too small for Coterie’s NB size. Regarding the tabs, you should definitely let them know, they have great customer service and perhaps you got a faulty pack. The anti-blowout protection comes from the side wings – make sure you always pull them out and wrap around the booty after you secure the diaper.

I see that the code no longer works, any chance you have a new code?? Would love to try with a discount!

    • Barbara Mighdoll says:

Hey Tracy! I just checked the code and it is still working for me for $20 off: COTERIEBARBARA Please try again and let me know if it’s still not working.

  3. Louie says:

I also tried the coupon and it did not work. The site only gives me the option to input a coupon code when I have an autorenewal selected. But it doesnt accept the code. If I make the item a one time purchase I do not get the option to even put in a code.

    • Barbara Mighdoll says:

Hi Louie! I reached out to Coterie and they are having technical issues with codes on their desktop version of their website. Try using the code on mobile – you should see a Promo code section on checkout.

      • Louie says:

This worked! Thanks so much. Looking forward to these, my wife thinks Im crazy for wanting to try premium diapers for the kiddo.

  4. Mel says:

Code didn’t work for me. Is there another code ? Thank you!

    • Barbara Mighdoll says:

Hi Mel! I just tested the code and it worked. Make sure you are selecting a “one-time” purchase vs. auto-renew!
