This post is in partnership with Coterie. I only endorse products I believe in.

I didn’t expect to care this much about diapers, but with two kids, it’s something I pay attention to.

Yes, performance matters. It’s nice to have a reliable diaper that doesn’t require packing a ton of extra outfits every time you leave the house. But materials count too, especially when it’s something your baby is wearing all day.

Over time, I started thinking more about what’s really in the diapers I buy. If a diaper is sitting against my baby’s skin all day, I want it to feel as non-irritating and thoughtfully made as possible.

So I took a closer look at a few premium options to compare not just performance, but materials and how they’re made. Here’s how these three brands, Coterie, Diaper, and Pampers Pure, compare.

TLDR: Coterie is the clear winner Get 10% off your subscription purchase ($85.50 for a month of diapers): EXTRA10

Criteria 1: Absorbency

The entire purpose of a diaper can be wrapped up in this criteria. Absorbency alone can make or break a diaper. High absorbency means no leakage, no blowouts, no diaper rash, and very critically, helps with a full night’s sleep. To test this feature, I poured water on all 3 diaper brands, then felt how dry it was after 30 seconds… clever right?

Coterie

Coterie says its diapers wick moisture away from baby’s skin in less than 16 seconds versus the industry average of 30 seconds. Like magic, this diaper felt incredibly dry despite pouring water on it! And this is a fact: my baby who mostly has been in Coterie his whole life has only had a very small diaper rash a couple of times and I’d equate that to him staying nice and dry under that diaper of his. 5/5

Dyper

Dyper says its diapers are engineered for dryness, absorbing 2x more than the traditional big-name brands. After pouring water on this diaper, I’d say its wetness fell somewhere in between Coterie and Pampers Pure, not too wet, but not too dry. These do seem to perform better than your average diaper. 4/5

Pampers Pure

Pampers Pure says its diapers lock away wetness from skin for up to 12 hours. But when testing, I’d say these diapers have average absorbency, nothing to rave about or distinguish themselves from other diaper brands. 3/5

Absorbency Winner: Coterie

Criteria 2: Softness

Coterie

OMG these are so soft! They feel like actual cloth, not crunchy disposable diaper materials. These certainly take care of keeping your baby’s sensitive skin all nice and cozy.  I’m sure you’ve picked out several higher price-point, organic cotton and bamboo outfits for your baby, so think of this diaper material as that same high-end quality as the onesies you’ve obsessed over.  Seriously, you just need to feel them for yourself.  5/5

Dyper

These diapers are soft without a doubt, none of that plastic crinkle feeling you’d get from a big-name brand. However, they are missing the fluffy, cloud-like feel that Coterie has. 4/5

Pampers Pure

These diapers are very soft for a big name brand. Not like the Pampers Swaddlers you may have tried before. But compared to Coterie, they don’t stand out on their own. 3/5

Softness Winner: Coterie

Criteria 3: Ingredient Safety

Diapers feel pretty straightforward, but there’s a lot that goes into how they’re made. From how the materials are processed to what’s added (or left out), these details can vary from brand to brand.

Coterie

Coterie stands out for its material standards. It’s TCF (totally chlorine free) and avoids a long list of common additives like fragrance, lotion, parabens, and phthalates. It’s also clinically tested to be hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested, which adds an extra layer of reassurance. 5/5

Dyper

Dyper is made with ECF (elemental chlorine free) processing and leaves out fragrance, lotion, latex, and phthalates. It’s also hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested. 4/5

Pampers Pure

Pampers Pure is made with ECF (elemental chlorine free) processing and avoids fragrance, latex, and parabens. It’s also hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested. 3/5

Safety Winner: Coterie

Criteria 4: Eco-friendly

No disposable diaper is fully eco-friendly. Most still rely on some synthetic materials to function well, so this really comes down to how brands approach sourcing and what they’re doing to reduce impact over time.

Coterie

Coterie uses wood pulp sourced from responsibly managed forests and incorporates plant-based materials into its design. The brand is also more transparent than most, publishing a full diaper safety report and clearly outlining what’s used in its products.

They’re upfront that no disposable diaper is perfectly sustainable, but they’re investing in research and long-term solutions to reduce their impact. 3/5

Dyper

Dyper diapers are made with responsibly sourced Bamboo. Dyper offers a disposal service for an extra cost through their program REDYPER. They then dispose of some diaper materials and compost the parts that are biodegradable.

It is important to note that this process releases significant amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, but they do take part in a Carbon Offset program that is purchased each time a box ships. 4/5

Pampers Pure

Pampers Pure diapers are also made with wood pulp from sustainably managed forests and the diaper's top sheet layer is plant-based. They are produced with 100% certified renewable energy. 2/5

Eco-friendly Winner: Dyper

Note: The disposal service gives them a lead against Coterie and Pampers Pure. But remember, this service costs extra and the composting process still isn’t good for the environment. All three of these brands should be considered eco-friendly compared to traditional diaper brands.

Criteria 5: Cost

Coterie

198 diapers for $95 on monthly subscription = $0.48 each

Dyper

216 diapers for $99.45 on monthly subscription = $0.46 each

Pampers Pure

132 diapers for $47.99 = $0.36 each

Cost Winner: Pampers Pure

Coterie wins my top non-toxic diaper pick!

It’s the brand I trust most. Better overnight performance, clean ingredients, and a noticeably softer feel. When it’s something your baby is wearing all day and night, it’s an easy yes for me.

✅ TCF (totally chlorine free)

✅ Fragrance-, lotion-, and dye-free

✅ Fewer leaks, even overnight

✅ Noticeably softer than other brands
