Coterie vs. Dyper vs. Pampers Pure

I’m a busy mom of two. As a multiple business owner and repeat offender of over-scheduling our social lives, the last thing I thought I’d be doing is obsessing over a diaper brand. But diaper changes are part of our daily routine, and I definitely don’t have time for unnecessary leaks or blowouts, or wipes that leave more of a mess than I started with. 

I prefer to stick with a single brand for both to ease my mental load. So since I’m always optimizing my time, I decided to put three “clean ingredient” diaper and wipes brands to the test to see which gets the job done best. Here’s my review of the diapers and wipes from Coterie, Dyper and Pampers Pure.

Diaper Absorbency Test

To thoroughly evaluate absorbency, I did two tests. 

• Test A: I poured 1 ounce of water into each diaper to simulate urination. I waited 60 seconds before assessing dampness inside and outside the diaper. 
• Test B:  I poured another ounce of water (2 ounces total) into each diaper to simulate a second urination. I waited 60 seconds before assessing dampness inside and outside the diaper. 

Coterie: Coterie instantly absorbed the liquid when poured, and remained dry to the touch both on the interior liner and the exterior. 5/5

Dyper: Dyper absorbed very quickly like Coterie, but upon touching these felt very wet on the interior liner and ever so slightly damp on the exterior. 3/5

Pampers Pure: Pampers Pure did not absorb the liquid for some time, but once absorbed felt slightly drier than Dyper, but nowhere near as dry as Coterie. These diapers also felt damp on the exterior. 3/5

Cleaning Efficiency Wipes

Coterie: Coterie’s wipes have a noticeable thickness that distinguishes themselves against any other wipe I’ve tried, not to mention they’re incredibly soft. The size is also striking compared to Pampers Aqua Pure – they are huge, so you can do more with less. P.S. Coterie also has convenient travel size packs to throw in your diaper bag. 5/5

Dyper: Dyper wipes are thick, textured and soft. They are just moist enough, and the same size as Coterie. My biggest complaint is related to the packaging itself: the opening of the package is so small it's difficult to get wipes out in general (especially if you have larger hands), and even harder to just get only one wipe out at a time. I also really dislike the peel and stick lid which you must hold open while pulling out a wipe. 4/5

Pampers Aqua Pure: These wipes are super soft, but they are on the thin side, and are sopping wet. I don’t enjoy the extra time required to wait for my squirmy baby’s skin to dry. The “pop-top” lid is similar to Coterie’s, which I like.  3/5

Ingredient Safety

A note on ingredients: I'm really particular about what goes on my babies’ bodies. Total chlorine free (TCF) diapers are made without the use of chlorine or chlorine derivatives in the bleaching process when diaper materials are manufactured.  Elemental chlorine free (ECF) diapers are crafted without elemental chlorine, but they aren't entirely chlorine-free because chlorine dioxide is used for bleaching instead of elemental chlorine. If given the choice, I feel safer using TCF diapers and products on my babies.

Coterie: 

• Diapers: Totally Chlorine Free (TCF), hypoallergenic, independently lab tested, free of chemicals including: fragrance, lotion, latex, rubber, dyes, alcohol, heavy metals, parabens, phthalates, pesticides, chlorine bleaching, VOCs, and optical brighteners. Third-party tested with a publicly shared Diaper Safety Report. 
• Wipes: 99% purified water and 1% gentle ingredients. Hypoallergenic, free of alcohol, fragrance, dyes, and other chemicals, earning them the EWG Verified status and a National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance. Publicly shared Wipe Safety Report.

Dyper:

• Diapers: Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF), free of latex, fragrance, lotion, parabens, phthalates.
• Wipes: 99% water. 100% bamboo viscose. Hypoallergenic, free of alcohol, chlorine, latex, fragrance, PVC, lotions, TBT, parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

Pampers Pure:

• Diapers: Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF), free of latex, fragrance, parabens. Clinically proven hypoallergenic.
• Wipes: 99% water and 1% cleaners and preservatives. They are free of alcohol and dye, but do contain hydrogenated castor oil, an ingredient the EWG advises to use with restriction.
