This post is in partnership with Coterie. I only endorse products I believe in and use with my family.

I love a Costco run, but are the diapers worth it? Honestly, my jaw dropped when I saw how cheap Kirland diapers were… so I had to know if they could actually compete with my favorite brand, Coterie.

So I put both to the test across six criteria: absorbency, softness, safety, eco-friendliness, cost, and convenience.

#1 Absorbency

To test this feature, I poured 1 cup of water on each diaper, then checked how dry it felt after 30 seconds and again after several minutes.

Coterie

Coterie wicks moisture in under 16 seconds versus the industry average of 30.  Completely dry to the touch after pouring water on it. My babies have barely ever had diaper rashes thanks to staying dry in these. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kirkland

Kirkland claims “super absorbent” on packaging but offers zero proof. These perform like your average drugstore diaper, which means more changes and potential blowouts. ⭐⭐⭐

Absorbency Winner: Coterie

#2 Ingredient Safety

Coterie

  • 0% Chlorine bleaching (TCF, totally chlorine free)
  • Fragrance free
  • Lotion free
  • Latex free
  • Rubber free
  • Alcohol free
  • Free of heavy metals
  • Free of pesticides
  • BPA free
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • No VOCs
  • No optical brighteners
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • No animal testing
  • EWG Verified
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified (tested safe from 1,000+ potentially harmful chemicals)
  • Meets EU-level safety standards (EDANA Stewardship Programme)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kirkland

  • Elemental chlorine free (ECF, not totally chlorine free)
  • Fragrance free
  • Lotion free
  • Latex free
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist-tested

⭐⭐⭐

Safety Winner: Coterie

#3 Softness

Coterie

OMG these are so soft! They feel like actual cloth, not crunchy disposable diaper materials. You truly need to feel them for yourself.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kirkland

To my surprise, these are actually softer than the average drog store brand. But it's hard to compete with the cashmere-like softness of Coterie. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Softness Winner: Coterie

#4 Eco-friendly

Did you know that no diaper is fully compostable, 100% biodegradable or truly eco friendly? Synthetic materials are required for a diaper to function properly.

Coterie

Coterie uses wood pulp from FSC-certified, sustainably managed forests. Their packaging is fully recyclable. They are actively investing in sustainable materials research. ⭐⭐⭐

Kirkland

Kirkland has zero mention of sustainability. These are not built to be eco-friendly and they don’t have any obvious conscious efforts to improve the environment. ❌

Eco-friendly winner: Coterie

#5 Cost

Coterie

198 diapers for $95 on monthly subscription for size 1 (8-12 lb baby) = $0.48 each

Kirkland

96 diapers for $14.99 for size 1 (8-14 lb baby) = $0.16 each

Cost Winner: Kirkland

#6 Convenience

Coterie

Available DTC and at Whole Foods. Subscription perks include:

  • 10% off every order
  • Text to delay, rush, or skip a shipment
  • Text to size up as your baby grows

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kirkland

Requires a Costco membership to purchase in-store or via Instacart. No subscription option. ⭐⭐⭐

Convenience Winner: Coterie
