I've been a loyal fan of Coterie diapers for a while now (read my full review here). But with so much buzz around Coterie vs. Millie Moon (a Strategist article caught the attention of many parents claiming this Target diaper brand is a Coterie dupe at a lower price point), I wanted to see if my go-to brand really stood out—or if this was a budget-friendly alternative that really could compare.
When I switched to Coterie, two major benefits became clear: my little ones slept longer stretches (thanks to next-level absorbency that kept them dry overnight), and I saw far fewer diaper rashes (a win for both the high absorbency and the ultra-soft, high-quality materials). Another perk? Because Coterie actually does its job, I didn’t need to haul around an overstuffed diaper bag anymore. I could confidently downsize to a simple belt bag because I knew that with Coterie, I wouldn’t need to pack multiple extra outfits or carry around a bunch of spare diapers.
But as much as I love Coterie, I kept hearing about Millie Moon as a possible dupe. Could a more budget-friendly diaper really compare in quality? Beyond just price, I also wanted to see if Millie Moon could hold up in other key areas. So, I put both brands to the test.
Coterie vs. Millie Moon
Diapers are one of the few products that your baby wears all day, every day. And overnight? They’re also in them for hours at a time. So while luxury diapers like Coterie come with a higher price tag, I’ve always felt that the benefits—better baby’s skin health, fewer toxins, and superior absorbency—make them worth it.
That said, I know how quickly diaper costs add up, and if there’s a less expensive diaper that holds up just as well, switching would be a no-brainer. That’s why I wanted to take a closer look at Millie Moon and see if it truly compares. So, from absorbency to comfort and safety, here’s how the two brands stack up.
Criteria 1: Absorbency
Quick note on this criteria: high absorbency means no leakage, no blowouts, no diaper rash, and a full night’s sleep. To test this feature, I poured water on each diaper brand, then felt how dry it was after 30 seconds.
COTERIE
Like magic, this diaper felt incredibly dry despite pouring water on it! And this is a fact: both my babies who have been in Coterie their whole lives only have had diaper rashes a couple of times and I’d equate that to them staying nice and dry, without any leaks under that diaper. 5/5
MILLIE MOON
Millie Moon absorbed the same as your average diaper—not instantly like Coterie, and feels damp on the touch. 3/5

ABSORBENCY WINNER: COTERIE
Criteria 2: Softness
COTERIE
OMG these are so soft! They have a cashmere-like feel that's not at all that like that crunchy material a lot of diapers have. In fact, this is the #1 reason we’ve stuck with the brand time and time again—seriously you just need to feel them for yourself. 5/5
MILLIE MOON
Okay these diapers are soft, much better than your average drug store brand. But they still have that plasticy diaper feel to them. It kind of feels like multiple layers of tissue paper crinkling between your fingers. 4/5

SOFTNESS WINNER: COTERIE

Criteria 4: Eco-friendly
Unfortunately there is no such thing as a 100% biodegradable diaper. And honestly, there is a lot of greenwashing in the industry today, which means it's hard to know what's true.
COTERIE
Coterie diapers are made with 25% plant-based materials from sustainably managed forests. The brand reduces packaging waste wherever possible. I also appreciate that Coterie is extremely transparent about its processes and materials. So while not an actual compostable diaper, Coterie is thinking about the environment and planning for a more sustainable diaper future. 3/5
MILLIE MOON
Millie Moon sadly doesn’t seem to really care about being eco-friendly. There is little detail on the sustainability of its diapers, other than a mention of being built with sustainably sourced pulp. 1/5
Eco-friendly WINNER: COTERIE
Criteria 5: Cost
COTERIE
198 diapers for $90 on monthly subscription for size 1 (8-12lb baby) = $0.45 each
MILLIE MOON
108 diapers for $30 for size 1 (6-11lb baby) = $0.28 each
COST WINNER: MILLIE MOON
So, is Millie Moon a Coterie Dupe?
So, Coterie vs. Millie Moon. Is Mille Moon really a Coterie dupe? Nope! Coterie diapers are way more absorbent, softer, have higher safety standards and are produced in an eco-conscious way compared to Millie Moon. They simply can't be replaced, IMO.
