The Strategist recently published an article saying Target's Millie Moon diapers are a Coterie dupe. Naturally, I was intrigued. Is it possible for a cheaper diaper to be as luxurious as my favorite, but pricey, Coterie diapers? I love a good deal, so I had to find out for myself. Here's my review to answer: Is Mille Moon a Coterie dupe?

Criteria 1: Absorbency

Quick note on this criteria: High absorbency means no leakage, no blowouts, no diaper rash, and a full night’s sleep. To test this feature, I poured water on each diaper brand, then felt how dry it was after 30 seconds.

COTERIE

Like magic, this diaper felt incredibly dry despite pouring water on it! And this is a fact: both my babies who have been in Coterie their whole lives only have had diaper rashes a couple of times and I’d equate that to them staying nice and dry under that diaper. 5/5

MILLIE MOON

Millie Moon absorbed the same as your average diaper – not instantly like Coterie, and feels damp on the touch. 3/5

ABSORBENCY WINNER: COTERIE

Criteria 2: Softness

COTERIE

OMG these are so soft! They feel like actual cloth, not crunchy disposable diaper materials. This is the #1 reason we’ve stuck with the brand time and time again – seriously you just need to feel them for yourself.  5/5

MILLIE MOON

Okay these diapers are soft, much better than your average drug store brand, but they still have that plasticy diaper feel to them. It kind of sounds like multiple layers of tissue paper crinkling between your fingers. 4/5

SOFTNESS WINNER: COTERIE

Criteria 3: Safety

COTERIE

  • Total Chlorine Free – 0% Chlorine bleaching
  • Fragrance free
  • Lotion free
  • Latex free
  • Rubber free
  • Dye free
  • Alcohol free
  • Free of heavy metal
  • Clinically proven hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • Paraben free
  • Phthalate free
  • Free of harsh chemicals
  • No VOCs
  • No optical brighteners
  • No animal testing

5/5

MILLIE MOON

  • Elemental Chlorine Free – pulp is bleached with chlorine dioxide, not as safe as TCF
  • Latex free
  • Fragrance free
  • Lotion free

3/5

SAFETY WINNER: COTERIE

Criteria 4: Eco-friendly

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a 100% biodegradable diaper.  There is a lot of greenwashing in the industry today and it's hard to know what's true.

COTERIE

Coterie diapers are made with 25% plant-based materials from sustainably managed forests. The brand reduces packaging waste wherever possible. I appreciate that Coterie is extremely transparent about its processes and materials. So while not an actual compostable diaper, Coterie is thinking about the environment and planning for a more sustainable diaper future. 3/5

MILLIE MOON

Millie Moon sadly doesn’t seem to really care about being eco-friendly. There is little detail on the sustainability of its diapers, other than a mention of being built with sustainably sourced pulp.  1/5

Eco-friendly WINNER: COTERIE

Criteria 5: Cost

COTERIE

198 diapers for $90 on monthly subscription for size 1 (8-12lb baby) = $0.45 each

MILLIE MOON

108 diapers for $30 for size 1 (6-11lb baby) = $0.28 each

COST WINNER: MILLIE MOON

So is Millie Moon a Coterie Dupe?

No! Millie Moon is not a Coterie dupe. Coterie diapers are way more absorbent, softer, have higher safety standards and are produced in an eco-conscious way compared to Millie Moon. They simply can't be replaced. Try them for yourself now.
